One of six advance copies misbound by the edwagd in decorated paper over boards instead of decorated cloth ; production was immediately stopped and publication was delayed. The publisher recalled two of the copies, the other four apparently circulated before they were recalled.
The papercovered boards appear to use the same or very similar paper that was eventually used in the dustwrapper. This copy with a Gotham Book Mart catalogue description laid-in describing the aamphigorey, and a Gorey-illustrated, Gotham Book Mart bookmark. This issue not noted in Toledano.

His vast body of work includes over books written by himself, as well as having illustrated works by many well-known authors such as T. Wells, and Virginia Woolf N. Grey hardcover volume, matte finish, black and while illustrations on the front, rear, and spine, endpapers are indicated with “Left Gofey and “Right Endpaper” with black winged creatures, illustrations on every page, most in black-and-white and some with colour; quarto amphiforey Gorey on the title page.
Gorey does not care for flap copy”no indication on back flap of place of printing. Volume is in fine condition with spotless boards free of any wear or markings, pages are bright and clean, no markings from prior xlso, binding is tight and square; dust jacket near fine, free of any markings, no sunning or discolouration, with minimal wear at the head and tail of the spine and corners.

As is stated on the dust jacket flap, “Herewith a companion volume to Amphigorey and Amphigorey Too. The subjects dealt with – of which the variety is stupefying – range from Aspic to Zoo”. Pictorial cloth boards with 12 blocks showing fantastical letters on both front and back boards, whimsical endpapers with “Left Endpaper” and “Right Endpaper” stated surrounded by flying creatures, signed by Gorey on the title page above his printed name which has a line drawn through it as is his usual; 11″ tall, unpaginated with leaves total, a few of the stories are in three colors or full color.
Near fine volume with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; there is a hint of rubbing to the corners, head and tail of the spine, else fine.
The unclipped dust jacket is near fine with minor overall edgewear and a hint of sunning to the spine.
